Malta Rock Climbing
Basic Rock Climbing is a 16 hour intensive and instructional course which is run over two full days or four half days. This is aimed at the complete beginner. The student is introduced to bouldering (rock climbing close to the ground). Here basic climbing principles are introduced: various hand grips and confidence building in footwork, balance, weight distribution, energy conservation, basic movement on rock, etc, etc. An introduction to rock climbing equipment and its proper use is given. The student is introduced to top / bottom roping and abseiling (rappelling). Basic climbing knots are demonstrated. The system of belaying (safeguarding a climber from falling) is taught. Intermediate Rock Climbing is a 16 hour intensive and instructional course which is run over two full days or four half days. You need to have had attended Basic Rock Climbing or have had some instruction/experience in the sport. This is an ideal course for the indoor climber who would like to make the transition onto outdoor rock, or for the bored seconder who would like to start lead climbing or for the not so experienced lead climber who would like to improve on his technique. The student will be reviewed to establish what he already knows, what his learning needs are and to improve on his own climbing skills. Both traditional and sport climbing will be covered. The student will be shown how to properly place protection, to set up proper belay anchors, use a variety of belay devices/techniques, etc, etc. The student will be exposed to a variety of climbing crags, so that what is learnt can be applied to different situations.
Advanced Rock Climbing is a 16 hour intensive and instructional course which is run over two full days or four half days. You need to have attended Basic Rock Climbing, Intermediate Rock Climbing and have had some climbing mileage added as well. Or else you need to show that you are a moderately experienced rock climber. This course is ideal for those who already have some experience in sport and traditional leading, but would like to refine and improve on their various climbing skills. Multi-pitch climbing, coasteering, deep water soloing and bouldering will also be covered.
All courses are 20 hours long.
