Malta Sailing and Snorkelling Adventure

This is a cruise not to be missed, which promises thrills, guided observation of underwater aquatic life and most importantly, the possibility to visit various sites including the treasure cove used in the movie, The Count of Monte Cristo, reefs off Comino Blue Lagoon and secluded caverns & caves along Santa Marija to the north of Malta. Snorkelling is above all easy and safe; and with our highly trained experienced PADI Divemasters/Instructors, just let your senses absorb the beauty of this natural world.

Set sail for a wonderfully relaxing full day cruise aboard either the PADI (Professional Association of Diving Instructors) certified M/S Hera or M/S Hera II. After pick-up by Hera Cruises licensed transport operators from your respective hotels, we depart from the Sliema Ferries (opposite Burger King / Nazzarenu Church) at 09.30hrs & motor cruise or sail (depending on weather) northwards towards Comino's Crystal Lagoon. On boarding the yacht, guests will be asked to fill in a routine liability release form and will be briefed on the day's proceedings. The briefing will include points on the equipment provided, snorkelling sites to be visited, safety rules while snorkelling, basic snorkelling hand signals, information on underwater flora & fauna of the Maltese Islands, how to interact passively with them and finally safe entry & exit into the crystal clear waters of the sites we are to visit. Needless to say, experienced PADI divemasters/instructors will give explanations on the above subjects.

While the yacht heads out into the waters of the Mediterranean Sea, a typical Maltese mid-morning snack will be served. On arrival at Crystal Lagoon, guests will be split up in smaller groups and will proceed together with their divemaster for a snorkelling session. This includes a swim towards 12 metre high cliffs where an opening takes you to the most beautiful beach on the blue lagoon. Near the cliffs, one can admire the famous Cardinal Fish which sport bright red/orange colours with a distinctive stripe on their eyes. This session is very scenic because of the underwater rock formations, topography and most important, the Mediterranean turquoise crystal clear waters.

At approx. 12.30 hrs, Hera Stewards will serve a typical Mediterranean buffet lunch, with complimentary wine, water & soft drinks. Following lunch, the yacht will proceed to the famous Santa Marija Caves for our second snorkelling stop. At Santa Marija Caves, snorkellers will also get the opportunity to participate in the saddled bream feast, where schools of fish are hand-fed. One can also admire loads of different species of marine life and one might also be lucky to spot the occasional octopus or sea horse amidst the poseidonia oceanica. Early afternoon we depart the Santa Marija caves and cruise towards our berthing at Sliema Ferries. Sea Scooters are available on-board on a request basis.
