Two days excursion by bus departing from the town of Varna Bulgaria.
1st day - Departure early in the morning to Plovdiv, the second largest town in Bulgaria. Plovdiv is founded on the place of a prehistoric settlement from the 2 millennium B.C. and lies picturesque on both banks of Maritza River. The old town is an open air museum and creates an unforgettable atmosphere with its beautiful painted and rich decorated houses, giving the guests an idea about the Bulgarian architectural style from the 18th and 19th century. Visit to the St.Constantine and Elena church.
Lunch. Departure to Rila monastery. Short break at the resort of Borovetz. Dinner and overnight in a hotel next to the Rila monastery.
2nd day - Breakfast. Attendance of the mass at the monastery church. Sightseeing tour of the monastery, the museum, the monk cells etc. The Rila monastery was founded in the 10 century A.D. by the hermit monk Ivan Rilski. This monastery complex is the largest in Bulgaria and plays an important role in the Bulgarian history being centre of spiritual and cultural life in times of dark oppression. The museum collection offers precious orthodox icons from the 18th and 19th century, a great variety of gold and silver coins, guns and church utensils. Departure to Sofia. Lunch. A walk in the city centre with its historical and archeological monuments. Sofia is one of the oldest European towns, founded for more than 5 millenniums. The town is an impressive compilation between history and present day. The visit to the Alexander Nevski cathedral, the Russian church, the Rotunda St. George, the fortress walls of roman Serdika is a must for the guests and enriches their impression from the Bulgarian capital city.
